There’s something special about Melbourne Zoo after the gates close.
As the sun sets and the crowds disappear, the zoo transforms — quieter, more intimate, and filled with a sense of discovery. As part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival program, guests stepped into this unique atmosphere for an unforgettable after-dark culinary experience.
From the moment guests arrived, it was clear this wasn’t your typical dining event.
With a drink in hand and the sounds of wildlife in the background, the evening began as a journey — not a sit-down dinner, but a roving culinary adventure designed to be explored at your own pace. Guests wandered through the zoo at twilight, moving between curated food stations, each offering a new flavour, a new setting, and a new surprise.
Each stop along the way showcased a carefully crafted dish, brought to life by the expertise of Compass Group Executive Chef Leo Gostein and his team.
But this wasn’t just about the food — it was about the experience.
Between courses, guests found themselves immersed in the zoo’s unique environment. Watching giraffes roam as chefs plated dishes nearby. Encountering wildlife in unexpected moments. Discovering hidden spaces brought to life with lighting, music, and energy.
